Artist's Comments

This is a neoclassicism political and intimate piece about my dual and torn identity between being Chinese as well as Taiwanese.

It is about the struggle to maintain the pride of being Taiwanese and to support it's independence from China, yet at the same time embrace the Chinese roots from where my family ancestry came from.

The character on my chest is the character for "heart" in Taiwanese traditional. The reason why I chose to use the "heart" character is because the heart character is part of the Taiwanese traditional word for "Love."
Which makes sense, because you are supposed to love with your heart.

Chinese simplified word for "Love" took out the character "heart" and replaced it with the character "right" (as in right hand).

I love how you made this piece symbolize so much about yourself. That is what true art is all about. :blowkiss: Absolutely beautiful, and if you don't mind me saying. Your two cultures are nothing to be ashamed of.

Take care, sweetheart. ^^

hey shriane,

just wanted to make a note that the simplified AI ’愛’ doesn't use the 'right' 右 radical, but rather the 'friend' 友 radical on the bottom.
